Choosing a men's matching set? Tips on size, fit and styling, plus how to wear the hoodie and joggers separately. A handy guide for holiday gifts too.
A men's matching set is the easiest way to look put-together on days when you really just want to be comfortable. Top and trousers in the same print or colour: no thinking required in the morning, yet it looks like you made an effort. In this guide you'll find how to choose a set, which size to pick, how to wear the pieces separately and why a set makes a strong gift for the holidays.
Random joggers with whatever hoodie is on the chair quickly read as "lazy Sunday on the sofa". As soon as top and bottom belong together, that changes. The line runs from shoulder to ankle, so you look taller and calmer. That's exactly why sets have become so popular with men who love comfort but don't want to look sloppy.
At LauBelle you build a set yourself from pieces with the same print. Two combinations that match straight away:
Black croc print: the zip training hoodie in Black - Croc with the men's relaxed-fit joggers in the same colourway. Black monogram: the same zip hoodie in Black - Monogram with the unisex relaxed-fit joggers in Black - Monogram.
The hoodie costs €59.95 and the joggers €49.95 each. With the welcome code LAUBELLE10 you get 10% off your first order.
It helps to know what you're buying, so there are no surprises.
The zip training hoodie is made from a 250 g soft-touch knit fabric. Thanks to the zip you can wear it open over a T-shirt or closed as a layer against the cold. It comes in sizes 2XS to 5XL, so there's a size whether you're slim or broad.
The relaxed-fit joggers are 95% polyester and 5% spandex. They have an elastic waistband with a fabric drawcord and two side seam pockets. The fit is loose, and the print runs over the waistband and the legs. The men's version goes from XS to 4XL, and so does the unisex version.
Good to know: these aren't heavy cotton sweats. The fabric is smooth and stretchy, which is great for moving around and long hours of sitting, but it feels different from thick cotton.
With a set you choose the size of the top and bottom separately. Plenty of men need a different size on top than below, and that's fine.
Hoodie: take a hoodie or sweater that fits you well, lay it flat and measure the chest from armpit to armpit. Double it and compare it with the chest measurement in the size chart on the product page. On the zip hoodie, size M is 118 cm around the chest and L is 124 cm, for example. Joggers: the relaxed fit is roomy. If you're between two sizes and prefer a slimmer trouser, take the smaller one. If you want that loose, comfortable look, go for your usual size. Length: if you're tall, also check the body length and sleeve length in the chart. The hoodie gets longer with every size, up to 79 cm in the largest sizes.
Not quite right after all? You have 15 days to return it.
A set doesn't always have to be worn as a set. Mixing it up is exactly what makes it worth having.
Full set on the go: hoodie zipped, joggers, white or black sneakers. Ideal for travelling, a long drive or a day at the playground with the kids. Set with a plain layer underneath: wear the hoodie open over a plain white or black T-shirt. The plain shirt gives the print some breathing room. Set under a coat: in November and December a plain black puffer or a simple bomber works well over it. Keep the coat plain; the print is already doing the work. Just the joggers: pair the printed joggers with a plain sweater, such as the fleece thermal sweatshirt in Light Grey or White. That makes the trousers the statement piece while the rest stays calm. Just the hoodie: wear the zip hoodie with plain black jeans or chinos. It turns into a casual look that also works for a dinner out.
One simple rule: if you're wearing print head to toe, keep shoes, coat and accessories plain.
Heading somewhere sunny this winter, or want something ready for next spring? The shirt & shorts set in black is another way to wear a matching look. It's a short-sleeve V-neck button-down shirt with matching shorts in lightweight peach-skin polyester. The fit is loose and oversized. It comes in XS to 3XL and costs €49.95. Wear it with flip-flops, sandals or sneakers.
A matching set is a gift that's hard to get wrong, especially for someone who likes to dress comfortably but never buys anything "smart casual" for himself. A few tips:
Not sure of his size? Secretly check the label in a hoodie he wears a lot, or ask someone he lives with. The 15-day return window gives you room if it doesn't fit. Choose the print to suit his taste: the croc print is bolder, the monogram more classic. If in doubt, go for black. Give the set in parts: the hoodie for one celebration, the joggers for the next. That way he gets two presents that together make a set. Order in good time: every piece is made only after you order. That means a little more waiting than with a shop that holds stock, so don't leave it until the last week before the holidays.
Shipping is free, even if you order the pieces separately.
If you wear the set often, you want it to keep looking good. For the joggers: wash cold at a maximum of 40 °C, don't bleach, don't tumble dry and iron on low with a cloth in between. Wash printed clothing inside out with similar colours to keep the print looking its best.
